More than 90 humanitarian aid trucks have been collected by UN teams within the Gaza Strip, three days after Israel eased the 11-week blockade.
The aid, which included flour, food for children and medical equipment, was taken from the Cherem Shalom crossing Wednesday evening and sent to warehouses for distribution. The pictures showed a bread oven producing part of the flour.
Israeli authorities said they allowed to pass 100 additional trucks through Kerem Shalom on Wednesday. However, the UN said that figure did not approach “what is needed to meet major needs in Gaza”.
Humanitarian organisations have warned of acute levels of hunger among the population of 2.1 million, as well as a higher percentage of children diagnosed with acute malnutrition, among significant shortages of basic food and rising prices.
An assessment by the UN-backed Integrated Food Safety Page (IPC) has also said that half a million people face urine in the coming months. /Periscope/
