The news was released today by Central Chinese Television, citing official sources of the regulatory authority of the Beijing film industry.
The spokesman for this authority stated that the US decision to set new tariffs on Chinese goods is “illegal” and that it will negatively affect the perception of American films by Chinese audiences, follows Periscope.
Currently, China operates with a system of strict quotas for foreign films, where only a limited number are allowed to appear each year and must first pass the filter of state censorship.
The move comes on the same day that China's 84% revenge tariffs against imports from the US have entered into force, following Washington's decision to raise its fees to 145% for Chinese goods.
President Donald Trump, justifying the verdict, accused China of a respective <x0 community” of global market rules.
Film industry and trade experts say that restricting American films may not have a major economic impact on the US, but it constitutes a clear political message from Beijing that trade warfare has also gone through the field of culture and mild influence. (A2 Television)
