US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has indicated that the administration led by US President Donald Trump is re-organising the US State Department (DASH).
This decision was made, according to Rubios, in order to eliminate offices that the Trump administration considers excessive and cut some programmes that it says do not comply with US interests.
This approach will empower the Department from the foundation, from offices to the” embassies, Ruby said in a statement, describing the movements as part of Trump's agenda to put the US in first place, as a priority.
“The specific operations for regions will be consolidated to increase functionality, the surplus offices will be removed and non-state programmes, which are not in line with America's core national interests, will cease to exist”, Rubio said.
The work previously carried out by Undersecretary for Civil Security, Human Rights and Democracy will now be decided under a new co-ordinator for Foreign Assistance and Humanitarian Affairs, he added.
Rubio, who also serves as overseer of the destroyed USAID administration, criticised the growth of the department over the years, calling it an inflated, bureaucratic and unable to carry out his crucial diplomatic mission in this new era of competition of major powers”.
This reshuffle comes after Trump ordered changes to the US Foreign Service ʹ the country's diplomatic body to ensure it follows his foreign policy agenda in February.
American officials in March said the department was also preparing to close nearly a dozen consulates. But in Ruby's announcement, nothing was said about consulates./Periscopi/
