The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo has declared a conviction regarding the demands of Kosovo's Parliamentary deputies, praising that some provisions of the Law for Independent Media Commission are contrary to the Constitution, Periscope reports.
MP The PDK has welcomed the decision, adding that we have won a major battle for free speech and independent media in Kosovo.
” Today we have won a major battle for free speech and independent media in Kosovo.
The Constitutional Court has abolished the Law for Independent Media Commission ʹ a law aimed at media control and restricting freedom of expression. We've been opposing this law over time, because we deeply believed it posed a direct threat to democracy”, Tahiri wrote.
” Today, the Constitutional Court has stated clearly: this power has violated the Constitution, violated media freedom and attempted to silence the free word.
This is a victory for every journalist, every citizen who thinks otherwise, for every voice that refuses to be silenced.
Kosovo does not need powers that fear freedom. It needs real democracy with independent institutions and bold media.
Freedom of speech is not negotiated. And every time it gets violated, it's gonna be in front of us”, Tahiri concludes.
