Drenas Community Chairman Ramiz Ladrovci has reacted sharply to the Kosovo government for its lack of support to “Feronicilli”, which is preparing for long-term work cuts.
At a meeting with Faruk Beqiri, the director of “Feronikli”, and Shpend Goodaqi, head of the Community Liaison Office, Ladrovci was informed of the company's decision to reduce the number of workers and halt the electric furnace, a key asset in production.
This was not a meeting for economic success, but a long-term workout plan. Due to the affordable energy price and the low price of nicotine, the company has suffered huge losses for two years. In spite of that, it has partly kept workers, but now is forced to make large cuts”, Ladrovci said.
He stressed that Fernikel is the chief employer in Drenas, with 814 directly engaged workers and hundreds of others working in contracting companies. Its closure would have serious social and economic consequences.
Ladrovci criticised Government for its lack of support for this industrial giant. He compared the situation to countries in the region, where relevant governments are assisting companies similar to subsidies.
Contrary to the governments of the region supporting their factories, the Government of Kosovo has shown complete neglect. Even the KPM Board has provided no solution for company licenses. This is unacceptable! ”
Ladrovci also demanded that, prior to the production ban, the company cover skoreien, which poses danger to the environment and public health.
Drensi's chairman warned that the closure of “Fernikol” would increase unemployment in the municipality and force qualified workers to leave the country. He called on the Government to urgently intervene to preserve jobs and ensure the functioning of the electric furnace.
“I hope a solution is to continue working in this giant Kosovo industry! ”/Periscopi/
