Two policemen from the Regional Traffic Unit of the Regional Police Directorate in Pec have been arrested today by police inspectors for abuse of office.

The IPK reported that they had received information that they had banned a citizen at a point of control, which not to impose a fine, had demanded money.

Kosovo's “Police Inspector today has received information from a citizen who claimed that two police officials from the Regional Traffic Unit, the Regional Police Directorate in Pec, have misused official office. IPK investigators had accepted information that police officials had banned the citizen at a checkpoint and not to impose a fine on the citizen has asked for a monetary sum. Following preliminary investigative actions conducted by IPK investigators, two police officials have been arrested on suspicion of having committed criminal work “Taking the bribe” and the same ones with the prosecutor's decision were assigned the detention measure for 48 hours”, the IKP report said.

To prevent any possible impact on the course of the investigation as well as to protect the integrity of the investigative procedure, The IPK said it has recommended the Kosovo Police and their suspension.

Other “Actions will be undertaken in line with IPK legal authorizations and in co-ordination with competent prosecutor”, the IPK says.

The police inspector thanked citizens for their co-operation, while saying it is being devoted “to strengthening integrity in the police ranks”.
