In his address, Hoxhaj stressed the importance of empowering Albanian networks in the Balkans and the West, underlining that networking is the key to personal, professional and collective success.
Referring to Harvard University studies, he stressed that human interconnections are more important than wealth, fame, or political positions.
Some 7 million Albanians live in the Balkans, while in the West about 2 million others live. We have one Albania and one Kosovo in the Balkans, and another in the West,” said Hoxhaj, inviting a new perception of the diaspora as natural expansion of Albanian identity in global geography.
“Networking benefits for Albanians in the Balkans and the West include access to employment opportunities, professional ties, career advice, new ideas and valuable information. Networking Albanians also helps boost personal and business, build relations and gain a competitive advantage in Balkan, European economies and anywhere in the world! ”, Hoxhaj said.
He praised the role Albanian businesses, academics, athletes and artists abroad already play and stressed that it is time for Albanians to be present in international politics as well. “If other Greeks, Croats, Serbs and Bosniaks do so, why not the Albanians too?”, Hoxhaj concluded.
The “Albanians living in the West should see themselves not as diaspora or exiles, but as expanding Albania and Kosovo into a European and global geography! Albanian businesses shine today; Albanian youth are academics, athletes and renowned artists, becoming icons for Western societies. But it's time for them to enter all over Western politics, becoming part of the American Congress, the British Parliament, the German Bundestag and other institutions! If other Greeks, Croats, Serbs and Bosniaks do it, why don't Albanians do it?
The summit, which brought together personalities from different fields, centralized women's economic and social empowerment and diaspora role in building new bridges of co-operation and development.
