European Union fines Apple and Meta with 700m euros for violating digital market rules

The European Union has imposed significant fines for two of the largest Apple and Meta technology companies, reaching a total of 700m euros, under new legislation aimed at curbing the powerful influence of these technology giants, Periscopi broadcasts. Apple has been fined 500m euros [...]
Apple has been fined 500m euros for violating the rules regarding her App Store, while Meta has been penalised at 200m euros for managing user data.
Commissioner for the Interior Market Henna Virkkunen stressed that the purpose of these actions is to protect the rights of small and innovative businesses in Europe, stressing the commitment to secure a fair and open market.
The two companies have reacted with a sharp response to these fines, with Meta accusing the European Union of trying to limit successful American businesses, while Apple has stressed that it is unfairly targeted and that she is forced to offer its technology free of charge.
Despite fines are lower than some that the European Union issued earlier, they can exacerbate relations between the EU and the US, at a moment when economic tensions are high, especially after the 10% tariffs for imports from the EU, which former President Donald Trump had charged with “exploitation of America”.
On the other hand, EU spokeswoman Arianna Podesta has clarified that these issues are separate from trade negotiations and that fines are related only to implementing rules for the digital market, stressing that they are not related to other international trade issues.
