More than 236 people have been injured as a result of the 6.2 magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale that struck Istanbul's noon. Overwhelmed by fear and panic, the majority of those left injured were those who were thrown off the heights of the buildings.
Authorities in Turkey have reported that, fortunately, none of the injured are in critical condition for life. Some of the injured received specialized healthcare at the hospital.
Fear of the quake caused thousands of citizens Wednesday evening to sleep on the streets and open environments after authorities warned against entering damaged buildings. An abandoned building collapsed in central Istanbul, but no one was hurt there. Termeti did not cause damage to energy infrastructure or to water pipelines for the city with 16 million residents. Wednesday's earthquake episode was in the Silivri area at a depth of 6.92km.
Two years ago Turkey suffered the deadliest and most devastating earthquake in its modern history. The 7.8 magnitude quake in February 2023 killed more than 55,000 people and injured more than 107,000 in southern Turkey and northern Syria.
Hundreds of thousands of people remain displaced and many still live in temporary dwellings as a result of that earthquake. / Priscopi/
