The American Economic Oda in Kosovo has reiterated its call for the Government of Kosovo to approve a unilateral trade preferential arrangement with the United States, removing customs duties for American products, broadcast Periscope.
The American Oda said she welcomes and strongly supports President Vjosa Osmani's statement, which “echoed our call by demanding suspension of all tariffs for American goods.
This call stresses the strategic importance of deepening economic ties with the United States”.
“Sic was said in yesterday's statement of the American Ode, such a move would be an important, far-reaching step that shows Kosovo's pledge of free and fair trade, also positioning Kosovo towards a stronger trade relationship and the possible consideration of a Free Trade Agreement in the future. The several-year partnership with the United States ʹ as Kosovo's most important strategic ally must be translated into bold decisions and at the right political moment”, OEK said in its call.
The American Economic Oda in Kosovo said it believes initiatives aimed at advancing US-Kosovo relations -- “particularly those based on sound economic arguments and common values” -- should not become the object of domestic political controversy.
“instead, they require unity and quick institutional action, so we call on the Government to focus on policies that strengthen the global partnership and the economic future of Kosovo”.
A clash between the Presidency and the Government occurred yesterday on this issue.
Osman's public request to the Government reacted to incumbent Finance Minister Iron Murati, who was disappointed that she put such communication in public and complained that the request went to the Government without working hours, and in just a few minutes it was published at the X.
In that response, Murati said the government has been considering the possibility of free trade with the US.
US imposed 10% fee Kosovo under the tariffs it set for most states. The 10% tax was the minimum imposed by the Trump Administration.
