The French Competition Authority imposed a 150m-euro fine against Apple for abuse of its dominant position in the mobile app market, charging her with limiting the use of Transparency Tracking Act (ATT).

This post, activated in April 2021, requires OSCE applications to request permission of users to track their activities for advertising purposes. Although ATT is aimed at protecting the privacy of users, the French Authority considered its implementation necessary and disproportionate to the goal of privacy.

Apple defended the post, saying it offers more users control over their privacy and has received support from consumers and privacy organisations. However, the authority argued that the system particularly affected the smallest publishers, depending on third-party data to survive financially. The period was from April 2021 to July 2023.

Despite the size of the fine, it is much smaller than Apple's income, which reached $112 billion in the last quarter of 2024. /abcnews.al/ Periscope.
