Among the victims is Andrej Gorgievski, one of the founders of the group known hip-hop i DNK. According to witnesses, Gorgievski initially managed to leave the building, but returned to help others. Unfortunately, he remained blocked by the collapse of the ceiling, losing his life along with dozens of other people, including some minors.
Who was Andrej Gorgievski?
Born and raised in Skopje, Gorgievski was one of the main figures of Macedonian hip-hop. He founded it. DNK in the early 2000s along with Vladimir Blaev (Pancho), who is in a hospital with severe burns. The DNK group became known for social themes, friendship and love in their texts, producing hits like Fala, Ako bridges with nema, Sce, Amajlija and Romani.
Among the victims of the tragedy are keyboardist Filip Stefanovski, guitarist Aleksandar Kolarov, drummer Goreïev and supporters vocalist Sara Projkovska. Among the deceased are Beatboxer Martin Atanasovski (Martin Buco) and Igor Velkov, another drummer of the group.
Renowned Macedonian singer Kaliopi reacted to social networks, writing: “Andrey... My heart is breaking. Your humanity shone at last moments, saving lives. It shouldn't be like this... I feel sad and angry. ”
Macedonian authorities have launched investigations into the causes of the fire, while according to preliminary data, it is allegedly caused by visual scheme effects that sparked a piece of the wooden roof. The club turns out to have worked with a forged license and severe shortages in security conditions.
The owner of the club, who attempted to leave the country, has been arrested along with 19 other people, including former state officials. Northern Macedonia Prime Minister Hristian Mickoski described the event as a <x0 mass murder”, promising strict penalties for those responsible.
Tragedy has caused a wave of grief and anger in the country, while the government has proclaimed seven days of national mourning in honour of the victims.
