Mustafa: Since the Trump I Administration, some European countries cheated on us that we don't need to connect to the United States.

Former Kosovo Prime Minister Isa Mustafa says the agreement that has reached Prime Minister Albin Kurti in 2023 and the Association Status offered by mediators makes Kosovo dysfunctional. It suggests proceeding with the establishment of the 2013 Association by implementing it according to the 2015 Constitutional decision. According to him, procrastinating a final agreement with Serbia could have major damage to Kosovo. As far as alliances are concerned, the former LDK leader suggests that Kosovo be kept with the US and the EU. The biggest threats Kosovo could face, Mustafa says they are a possible organisation of Serbs throughout Kosovo, as happened in Banjska, and the withdrawal of American troops.

Removing the burden of the problem with Serbia through a final agreement with mutual recognition is the only key to paving the way for Kosovo to target recognition by the five EU states, strengthening international subjectivity and advancing towards integration into Euro-Atlantic structures. Current geopolitical developments and change for 180 degrees of American politics clearly show that the long-standing marathon of negotiating with Serbia, and the lack of a final agreement with official Belgrade is damage only to Kosovo.

Former Kosovo Prime Minister academic Isa Mustafa, in an exclusive interview for Gazeta Express, speaking of wrapping up negotiations with Serbia, says mutual recognition should be the focus of the final agreement. Mustafa says she must return as a condition to the negotiating table, since in the Kurti-Wuchic agreement of 2023 she has been displaced from negotiations indefinitely.

Speaking of the damage being done to Kosovo by the lack and prolonging of an agreement with Serbia, Mustafa also cites a UN resolution of 2010, which he put on Kosovo's part to fail to work towards finding a solution with the northern neighbour.

The first damage to this, according to the former LDK head, is to turn governments into inefficient, since instead of dealing with the problems of citizens, their focus and commitment should be in negotiations.

While the second damage says it is the weakening of Kosovo's position, while Serbia is consolidating the report with the US and European countries. Mustafa adds that Serbia is sucking up investments, meanwhile, Kosovo is being sanctioned economically and politically.

The former Kosovo prime minister says this also shows why Serbia is not interested in finding a final solution with Kosovo. He says Serbia wants Kosovo quietly to return to a country with unfinished status, which, according to Mustafa, poses a colossal threat to Kosovo.

This is why Serbia is not showing interest in closing the dialogue. He suggests that Kosovo implement the 2013 Agreement ratified in the Assembly and the Constitutional Court Act of 2015, rather than the agreement Prime Minister Albin Kurti reached in 2023, since he says it violates the state of Kosovo.

In addition to the external factors determining Kosovo's development as a state, political interaction and domestic governance has an extremely important role.

Speaking on this issue, Mustafa says the path being driven by Kosovo politics is more like a dead end than by a transmission leading Kosovo forward.

Mustafa stresses the lack of real democracy, disrespect of work and values, while adding that elections are won by politics by populations and allies that freed the state are ignored.

The former prime minister and former head of the LDK says co-operation between parties is lacking in Kosovo, while political interests are placed on state interests.

Another serious risk that Kosovo could face in the future, according to Mustaf, is the withdrawal of American troops from Kosovo. He says there have been warnings to that effect since 2020, if Kosovo shows interest in peace and stability.

The former LDK leader says this has even been the reason why the party he once led had abandoned the coalition with the Vetevendosje movement led by Albin Kurti.
