Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Melon has strongly rejected the proposal of France and Great Britain for sending Italian troops to Ukraine.
In an interview for Ray 1 Secolo TV on March 4th, Mellon called this proposal “very difficult to realise” and questioned its effectiveness.
She stressed that Italy will not send soldiers to Ukraine, stressing the importance of Western unity on the issue.
This refusal comes after French President Emmanuel Macron's statements, which during a visit to Washington on February 24th, revealed that France and Britain were developing a plan to provide security guarantees for Ukraine, including the possibility of sending European troops.
Macron explained that these bodies would not necessarily be on the front line, but would serve as “gart”
Despite these proposals, Melon has expressed Italy's readiness to play an intermediate role in efforts to resolve tensions between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. It has offered itself as a <x0 user” to improve relations between the two leaders.
In another development, Mellon has refused requests for removing fascist symbols from her party's logo, the Italian Brothers. It has ruled out the possibility of removing the tricolored flame from the logo, saying this “has never been the subject”.
