The more economic investments it attracts, especially from the United States, the greater its security will be.
These have been some of the main orders of the Albanian great friend who in 1999 led NATO's campaign, Wesley Clark.
In an online conversation conducted by the Kosovo Economic Oda, on the 26th anniversary of the start of NATO bombings on Serbia, the former Supreme Commander of Allied Forces has talked about some of the challenges our country faces.
According to him, Kosovo is in an important strategic position and, fortunately, NATO is located there because of instability in the region.
In some ways, Kosovo is the coal mine. You are the first warning of threats to regional stability in the Western Balkans”, Clark has said.
The former US general has estimated that the most important thing for strengthening Kosovo's security is development and economic growth.
The more jobs you create, the more investment you can attract, especially such American, the greater your security will be”, Clark noted.
Furthermore, he has underlined that Kosovo must strengthen the rule of law, making it visible and strengthening business confidence.
According to Clarke, Kosovo still has great opportunities to improve its position in terms of electricity.
“should never be the option to buy energy from outside Kosovo given its abundant lignite reserves, it should be an energy producer for the region. You have some of the world's best lignite reserves”, he said, among other things.
Despite advice from the American friend of Albanians for investment growth, especially the American government of Kurti in its four years of governance has made it the opposite.
She had kicked one of the biggest foreign investments in Kosovo, such as the project to build the new Kosovo thermal power plant, by the US company Contour Global50.
Shortly after Kurt's coming to power, his government had fulfilled its pledge that “Contour Global will not come into expression”.
It was about one of the largest investments expected to take place in Kosovo, worth 1.2 billion euros, from which a modern thermal power plant with a capacity of 500 megawatts would be obtained.
The removal of the contract was named as a true achievement by Kurti, though the Kosovo government was forced to pay 21m euros after Kosovo lost arbitration in October 2023.
