Elections in Albania, over 218 thousand requests approved by the diaspora to vote

218 thousand immigrants have been registered to vote in May 11th elections. State Election Commissioner Ilirjan Celibashi at a media conference suggests 42 thousand have been rejected.

Celibashi has declared that March 9th may be the deadline for registration, as preliminary lists must be announced. Meanwhile, the Socialist Party has rejected a demand by the Democrats for delaying the deadline for registering migrants, as it added that March 9th is the day the preliminary voter lists should start preparing.

March 9th is a date that we cannot go beyond because it is determined by law. By the 9th, we can talk and discuss other deadlines, so we can't go beyond 9th. It has been a requirement that the deadline for days be extended, for us there is no problem, but the SP has agreed with this idea, saying the date 4 is known to all and that it is the deadline and the extension for 2 or 3 days would not change anything big”, Celibashi said. But while the requirement for delaying this deadline for all immigrants has been rejected, according to Celibashi it may be good to have a 2-3-day delay only for those who have applied once and refused the application. “For these 42 thousand my opinion is worth delaying this” deadline, the state commissioner said.
