Trump has doubled the tax for Chinese imports to 20%, in response to allegations that Beijing is not doing enough to stop the fertility flow to the US.
The US president said import taxes would force Canada and Mexico to take more action to curb illegal drugs and migrants entering the country.
Meanwhile, American markets fell and Asian markets were shaken by the possibility of a trade war.
