Audi R8 retired last year without any clear offspring.

The first generation shared a mechanical base with Lamborghini Gallardo, and the second generation was a relative of Huracan.
Both models used an atmospheric V10 engine and represented the top of the Audio Sport Division.
This counters previous information, suggesting that the successor of the R8 will be completely electrical and based on the VW Group's SSP architecture.
Instead, Audi is now said to be using a hybrid plow engine.

The R8 reportedly will share the power system, aluminium construction and electronic systems with Lamborghini Temerario, continuing the long co-operation between two brands.
Lamborghini Temerario is equipped with a turbo 4-litre V8 engine in combination with three electric engines, which gives a total of 920 horsepower (677 kW).
Furthermore, an even stronger version of over 1,000 horsepower is said to be developing.

To distinguish himself from the twin Lamborghini, Audi Sport is said to put a special emphasis on the practicality and daily use of R8.
This could position R8 as a contestant of the most powerful versions of Porsche 911 and Mercedes - AMG GT.
Like previous generations, the R8 is likely to have a unique external and internal design, and will be offered in Coupe and Spyder versions.

The third generation, Audi R8, is said to be produced at the Bellinger Hefe factory, as his ancestors did.
