Ukraine's president, Voldymyr Zelensky, postponed his visit to Saudi Arabia in order not to give “girations” Tuesday's meeting between US and Russian officials in Riyadh, they have told the news agency “Reuters “two sources with knowledge about the issue. Speaking earlier Tuesday in Turkey, Zelensky said he had postponed his visit to Saudi Arabia, which was originally scheduled for Wednesday, until March 10th, saying he does not want any “concience”, reports the agency “Reuters”.
“Ukraine) did not want to appear to be giving any legitimacy to anything that happened in Riyadh” said one of the sources.
Zelensky said during his visit to Turkey that he was not invited to Tuesday's meeting between senior US and Russian delegations, where the top diplomats of the two countries were involved. Washington and Moscow said after the talks they had agreed to continue efforts to end the war in Ukraine.
We want no one to put anything behind our backs... No decision can be taken without Ukraine as to how to end the war in Ukraine” said Zelensky, broadcasting Nacional.
American President Donald Trump has repeatedly pledged to end the war soon. He said after the US talks Russia is “disappointed” with Ukraine's response and that this state could make arrangements earlier.
US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth told NATO allies last week that it is unrealistic for Ukraine to become part of the alliance as part of a negotiated solution with Russia and that Kiev's hope to restore the internationally recognised border is “illusionally intentional”.
Last week, Trump held separate telephone conversations with the presidents of Zelensky and Putin, raising concerns among Kiev's European allies that they could be excluded from the peace process.
