The Trump administration has no plans to withdraw its forces from Europe, Polish President Andreze Duda said after meeting with Keith Kellogg, the special American envoy for Ukraine and Russia, in Warsaw on Tuesday.
According to Duda, he and Kellogg discussed recent incidents related to the Russian hybrid war, as well as concerns about the future of American engagement for European protection.
There is absolutely no American intention to reduce activity in our part of Europe, especially in terms of security, or to reduce the number of American troops”, said Duda, writes Euroacter, broadcast the Express.
There is no sign that the United States plans to withdraw from Europe. (...) Two years ago, we fully understood that strengthening relations between the European Union and the United States should be a priority of the Polish presidency of the EU Council”, he added.
Varshava has the EU Council's next presidency since January and will continue until the end of June.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has insisted that European NATO members share at least 5% of their GDP for defence a goal that Poland is close to meeting, with plans to spend 4.7% to 2025.
No Cause for Anxiety
Keith Kellogg arrived in Warsaw just days after US newly appointed Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth's visit and the same day US-Russia negotiations were held in Riyadh, led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
A day earlier, European leaders had gathered in Paris to discuss Washington's talks with Moscow, as well as the possibility of a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine after a ceasefire is reached. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk was among the guests.
However, Europe was not invited to discussions in Saudi Arabia. According to Polish President Andreze Duda, this should not be cause for excessive concern, as he believes American President Donald Trump is capable of handling the situation effectively.
I want to calm my fellow countrymen because I see a great nightmare in the public realm. It may be that leaders of some European countries are full of concerns about their future and interests”, Duda told the media after his meeting with Kellogg.
“America has come very hard when it comes to ending the war in Ukraine. I know President Donald Trump and know that when he takes action, he does so in a very determined and decisive way”, he added.
