How many American troops across Europe Germany first on the list, Kosovo has 602 soldiers

The issue of the United States' military presence in Europe became the central topic of the Munich Security Conference this week, in which US Vice President JD Vance is participating.

US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth warned NATO allies in Europe on Friday that the American military presence on the continent would be “extensiond permanently” during his visit to Warsaw.

But, in Brussels, he said Thursday that no decision for troop level had been made.

About 100,000 American troops are deployed in Europe. More than 65,000 are located as permanent on the continent, while the rest are rotating staff and mainly reinforcements.

Their number increased by nearly 20,000 soldiers after Ukraine's Russian invasion in February 2022, according to the US Department of Defence during the Biden Administration.

In Kosovo, within KFOR, there are 602 American soldiers.

About 10,000 American soldiers are currently in rotation in Poland, the Department says.

Any withdrawal of US troops would likely include these additional troops sent after 2022, a diplomat said. NATO, reports AFP, broadcast the Express newspaper.

There are about 65,600 American forces deployed in Europe, without including the National Guard and civilian staff working for the US Department of Defence, according to official figures from April 2024.
