Trump has declared that in a phone call he had this weekend with Jordan's King Abdullah, he had told him he would like them to get more Palestinians because the Gas Strip is a mess, reports the BBC.

Trump also said he planned to make a similar request to the president of Egypt on Sunday.

The “movement could be temporary” or “could be long-term”, according to him.

Hamas has vowed to reject any such action, and comments will likely anger Palestinians in Gaza, who view the territory as their great-great home.

Our Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip endured death and destruction for 15 months, without leaving his country. Therefore, they will not accept any offer or solution, even if they appear to be good intentions under the reconstruction title, as announced by US President Donald Trump”, has told BBC, Bassem Naim, a member of the Hamas political bureau.

Our “people, just as they have ruined all plans for evacuation and alternative homeland over the decades, will also prevent such projects”, he added.

Most of Gaza's two million residents have moved in the 15 months of war with Israel, which has levelled much of Gaza's infrastructure.

The United Nations has estimated that 60% of the structures across Gaza have been damaged or destroyed, and it may take decades to rebuild.

Trump has not provided further details of the proposal.

Over two million Palestinian refugees, most of whom have taken citizenship, live in Jordan, according to the United Nations. They are descendants of some of the some 750,000 Palestinians who left or were forced to leave their homes in conflicts surrounding Israel's formation.

Thousands of Palestinians have fled to Egypt since the start of the war with Israel, but they are not known there as refugees.

In October 2023, Egypt's President Abdel Fattah al-Assi has said he opposes any forced shift of Palestinians to the Sinai Peninsula and that the only solution is an independent state for Palestinians.
