The leader of the Serb extremist group, known as the Centian, Bratislav Zivkovovic, has been killed in Ukraine during clashes within the Russian counteroffensives in the Kursk region.
Zivkovic was a familiar figure for provocative and destabilizing activities in the Balkans, especially in northern Kosovo, where he had actively participated in the establishment of barricades aimed at blocking Kosovo authorities and strengthening interethnic tensions.
In addition to his role in Kosovo, he had organised sending Serbian mercenaries east of Ukraine, supporting efforts by pro-Russian separatists, reports media.
His activities were openly opposed to international laws and sought to spread Serbian influence in conflicts outside Serbia's borders.
Zivkovic had built a reputation as one of the most prominent extremists in the Balkans and was known for nationalist rhetoric and actions promoting ethnic conflicts.
His murder in Ukraine marks the end of one of the main protagonists of the Serbian radical line, but also raises concerns about the involvement of individuals and groups from the Balkans in foreign conflicts, including the war in Ukraine.
This development comes at a time when the international community continues to pursue with concern increasing the involvement of extremist foreign elements in the Ukrainian conflict, underlining links between radical ideology and destabilising unstable regions.
In contrast, many are reportedly fighting alongside Russia, which has begun its invasion of the Ukrainian State on February 24, 2022.
