US Ambassador to Belgrade Christopher Hill, at the end of his mandate there, has given an interview where, among other things, Kosovo-Serbia relations and the dialogue mediated by the European Union.
By “N1”, Hill during this interview in “RTS” has largely blamed the Government of Kosovo for the situation created in dialogue between the two countries.
He was quoted as saying he is very disappointed with the situation in Kosovo and that her government is primarily responsible for the lack of progress in dialogue.
Kosovo was supposed to do some things, example, to protect people, including those who are Serbs. I must say, I am very disappointed with how far we have come to Kosovo. It's very clear that it's an unpleasant situation” he said.
Hill was quoted as adding that it hopes that there will be a “greater effort” in the dialogue, stressing that the European Union is “struggling very hard “and that there are significant “%x5> ahead.
I think that many of us are very disappointed with the lack of progress in the Brussels dialogue. And many reasons for this failure, in my opinion, are on the side of the Government of Kosovo. It's up to us to support Europe and see if it can get progrs. But I'm not happy with what has been achieved” he added.
In the end, Hill has said it is optimistic that the Association of Serb majority municipalities will be formed.
The United States responses to the Government run by Albin Kurti were toughed this week, following an action to close several parallel structure offices in Kosovo.
In a media communiqué, the American Embassy said that “is weakening confidence in our <x1-> bilateral relations.
For twenty-five years we have invested in Kosovo, working in partnership with its leaders to live our long-term common interests”, the US Embassy said.
The Kosovo Government's continued and uncoordinated actions for closing Serbia-backed institutions directly and negatively affect Kosovo citizens ʹ ethnic Serbs and other communities and undermine Kosovo's aspirations to join the Euro-Atlantic community”.
“These issues should be managed through EU facilitated dialogue in order to advance Kosovo's normalisation and integration as a modern, multiethnic, European democracy and protect the well-being of its citizens” The communiqué says.
On the other hand, the European Union stressed that these shares were carried out in election campaign time until sanctions were mentioned.
Kosovo's recent <x0) actions against and the closure of structures supported by Serbia, carried out amid the election campaign for the February 9th parliamentary elections, face its obligations to the European Union under the normalisation process. E ULEX is monitoring the conduct of these recent actions in line with its mandate...
“ ...while, reportedly in the Council's conclusions of 2024 for enlargement, the EU will gradually remove measures against Kosovo in parallel with Kosovo's further steps to de-specise tensions in the north, these actions are not favourable for that purpose” was said in a response.
