In a statement distributed by the media in Macedonia, Hill noted that Serbia is not buying just planes, but is also strengthening relations with the NATO Air Force.
I think Serbia is making important strategic decisions. Buying jets is just a part of it. The move shows Serbia's commitment to strengthening ties with NATO, and that is of great importance,” said Ambassador Hill.
He also stressed that these developments are not directly related to the situation in Kosovo, but they do not rule out the need to address issues on the ground.
Hill underlined that the recent visits of French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Schelz to Serbia show a clear change in Belgrade's approach and Serbia's support in its strategic elections.
“We are not here to dictate to Serbia what to do, but we see its decisions going in the right direction,” added the US diplomat.
Meanwhile, the West continues to hope for a change of position in Serbia regarding relations with Kosovo.
In recent days, European Union envoy for Kosovo-Serbia dialogue Miroslav Lajcak announced that Serbia has withdrawn its letter last year, expressing reservations for the Agreement on normalising relations with Kosovo.
