Alban Zogaj, deputy head of the Pristina municipality, has said a set of measures for easing traffic in the capital have been undertaken.
He has said he believes that the bicycle project, new buses and internal rings linking the large circle of Fushe Kosovo will have a positive impact on resolving the communications problem in Pristina.
Likewise, Zogaj has voiced confidence that even the planned parking lots in Pristina's suburbs will free traffic in the centre.
“As far as heavy traffic is concerned we've taken some measures, and the first is this bicycle project, we believe 100 new bikes have to release communications, and we're waiting for buses to help out the furniture. The more buses, the fewer cars in town. The third is parking lots on the outskirts of Pristina, which releases traffic in downtown Pristina because there is no need to get cars all in the centre”.
Zogaj has said that according to Komuna statistics, 150,000 cars entered downtown Pristina every day, so the idea is for some to stop in the suburbs.
He has added that if the bicycle project is successful, the municipality will continue with the second phase of purchase.
“150 000 cars entered downtown Pristina every day, the idea is to stop some of the cars on the outskirts of town. Then, too, the A and some new lanes we are building have helped heavy traffic. It's the inner ring, connecting the vast circle of Fushe-Kosovo with Arberia frees traffic in the centre. We're going to test the bicycle project to see how citizens are dealing with this project, and we're going to see how much it's going to be used and if we see that there's a high interest in using it, then we're going to continue with the second phase of new purchases and bicycles, but first we're going to test it with these first 100,”
On the other hand, he has announced that the loan contract for the purchase of new buses has been signed and that the tender will soon be released.
Pristina's deputy chairman expects that in the spring of next year “we have the new bus fleet”.
The “Contrata has been signed with loans as well as is now expected to release the tender for bus purchase, and despite delays, we have been delayed in this project, we expect the new fleet of buses in the spring of next year. The square will be fixed from Hotel Grand to Cathedral initially and the section around the hotel to the Central Bank and the square takes shape of a letter L. It involves a huge space in that area and will transform Pristina's view, but it will give citizens access to a new modern boulevard like the entire capital of the world”, Zogaj has said of EO.
Zogaj has also talked about the problem of waste in capitals, which, according to him, has already been solved.
“As far as waste is concerned we've found a solution and I believe that citizens are just looking at the improvement in this direction we've signed a contract with the private sector, we don't only have the public sector that did waste collection, but we have a private company that did this service and we have a much better situation, and we've already bought a thousand and 500 containers to rerun for the entire capital. You're looking at the first results immediately on the ground”.
