In October, Jens Stoltenberg hands over his post as NATO Secretary General. According to some reports, the next post for it appears already defined: He is expected to take over the Security Conference in Munich.
According to reports in some media, the new security conference chief in Munich (MSC) is expected to be elected Jens Stoltenberg. In this new task he will follow in the coming years the current chairman of this conference, Christoph Heusgen. For this they initially briefed Porta Politico and Germany's redocial network (RND). According to the RND Security Conference foundation council in Munich, it is preparing the relevant decision.
Important Security Forum
The MSC since its founding in 1963 has been held at one of the most important international forums for security policy. Every year in February, defence ministers of NATO countries, military affairs experts and representatives of the arms industry gather at the Mayerscheer Hoff Hotel in Munich. At the centre of the discussions are mainly topics, which concern the security of NATO states.
Stoltenberg's mandate at the helm of NATO has been extended several times. He wanted to withdraw as early as 2022, but because of the war in Ukraine, his mandate was extended until the end of 2023. Since a successor had not yet been found, he continued to remain in office for another year. Now on October 1st, 2024, it will hand over the post to former Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte.
Stoltenberg “The best selection without any comparison of” has been expressed, according to current MSC chairman Heusgen, former career diplomat and for many years Chancellor Angela Merkel adviser. Heusgen took the lead in the MSC in 2022 by Wolfgang Ischinger. Ischinger is president of the MSC foundation council and established this foundation in 2011. 65-year-old Stoltenberg from 2000 to 2001, as well as from 2005 to 2013, has been prime minister of Norway. NATO has not been approved on this announcement. But the news agency will report that its information on the change of Stoltenberg to the new task is confirmed by several sources. / DW
