Special Prosecutor Raises Charges Against Two Serbs, Suspected of War Crimes in Istog

The Special Prosecutor of the Republic of Kosovo has today filed an indictment at the Constitutional Court in Pristina, the Special Department, against two M.P and J.Z. defendants, of Serbian nationalism, due to well-based suspicion that they have committed the criminal crime of fighting the civilian population in co-ordination. The incident has been established under the law that has been in force at the time of the conduct of criminal acts.
The defendants are charged with committing murder, torture, inhumane treatment, intimidation, destruction of property, mass deportation and ethnic cleansing of the Albanian national population in the Istog Community during wartime. The defendants are also charged with events in Saliha, Imaj, Lipa, Pepaj, etc. Investigations have found that during the period of time relevant to this indictment, there were two cases of sexual violence against victims of Albanian nationalism”, the Special Prosecutor reports.
Also confirmed during the investigation was that during the war period, about 5,000 houses were burned in the municipality of Istog, about 250 victims of 19 children and many other material damage were killed.
This criminal case has already passed the Special Department of the Foundation Court in Pristina for further procedure.
The defendants are in custody under the court's verdict of the Pre-Procedure Judge until a new verdict.
