Serwer: Washington to End Serbia's Literacy

On Friday, Serbia's President Aleksandar Vuciq announced the measures with which he intends to challenge Kosovo's independence. He is no longer satisfied with refusing to recognise Kosovo, but wants to take at least some of it. Meanwhile, the US Embassy in Belgrade continues to express confidence that it is leading Serbia [...]
So writes US professor of John Hopkins Danier Serer, who in his latest analysis says that the petting of Serbia does not work, nor does Kosovo's punishment work, reports Express.
Washington must restore its policy for the Balkans in more consistent directions, says Serwer, who has listed at some points how he thinks this policy restoration should be done:
- He [Washington] must support Pristina's efforts to rule equally in northern Kosovo and help plan future moves in that direction.
- It should end Serbia's caressing, publicly criticise Vuciki's irredentist and anti-democratic goals, and end the collection of praise and money for Belgrade.
- The US should encourage EUFOR's redistribution in the northeastern Bosnian town of Brcko, where it would represent a serious obstacle to secession.
- Washington must insist that Bosnia implement the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights that would end the country's ethnic-based policy.
- Washington must lead an effort to isolate Montenegro's Russofils from sensitive NATO information.
- He also must warn Macedonia that it will be next if the Russians there remain in power.
Serwer says that the ways Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti exercises sovereignty in the north are of concern to the West, but says Kurti “is unequivocally ranked towards the West.
“Kosovo, where power change occurred several times, has a popular prime minister who exercises sovereign authority in the Serb majority north of Kosovo in ways that give concerns to Americans and Europeans. They want him to consult and get permission for anything he does that could bother either Kosovo Serbs or Belgrade. He wasn't ready to do that. But Prime Minister Kurti nevertheless is unequivocally listed with the West. He has no alternative”.
