Serwer: Belgrade's Vucinq, trying to regain positions in northern Kosovo

Serbia's call for the return of Serbs to Kosovo institutions American expert on the Balkans Daniel Serwer sees it as Aleksandar Vuciqi's effort to restore control over the predominantly Serb-populated north.

According to Cerwer, this is being done with the aim of blocking the north and maintaining the status quo.

“I think he (Vukiqi) has realized that the removal of Serbs from Kosovo institutions has reduced Serbia's influence in Kosovo and that now Pristina institutions are recruiting young, Serb people who allegedly are not loyal to Belgrade, so Belgrade has not wanted them to join institutions. Now trying to regain its position in northern Kosovo, demanding that people who are loyal to Belgrade return to institutions to block Pristina's further progress in introducing Serbs who are not loyal to Belgrade within the” institutions, he declares.

Serwer adds that it is not against the return of Serbs, but it must be done according to Kosovo laws.
