US State Department said in a statement that “this agreement will expand opportunities for American companies to invest in the energy sector in Serbia, including promoting American investments that will strengthen strategic partnerships US-Serbia”
The deal was signed Wednesday by US Undersecretary for Economic Growth, Energy and Environment Jose Fernandez, and Serbia's Foreign Affairs Minister Marko Djuric.
Fernandez said that our “ability to work on clean energy, as well as the possibility of American companies investing in technologies from that field in Serbia, is something that we highly value”.
He added that the US is happy that co-operation with Serbia in the green energy field will continue.
Climate change is the challenge of our time. But it is also an opportunity to invest in energy of the future and the first step was launched today,” added Fernandez.
Djurovic said the agreement would facilitate transition to green energy in Serbia and offer better access to clean energy.
This agreement will result in the most reliable and long-term supply. Serbian and American energy citizens and companies will benefit from this,” Djuric added.
The chief of Serbian diplomacy said the signing of the agreement sends a strong message for Serbia's commitment to improving overall relations with the US.
The very word "Strategic" speaks of the fact that we are now a step closer to a strategic partnership and strategic, good, quality and long-term relations with the US”, Djuric concluded.
Djuric said that in the next two decades, Serbia will increase its consumption fourfold and that it needs a partnership with industries, companies and countries that have successfully increased its production capacity in the past decades. /rel
