As Germany prepares to host the Berlin Process summit on October 14th, marking the 10th anniversary of the EU-related platform for high-level co-operation between Western Balkan states, German envoy to the Western Balkans Manuel Sarrazin, has visited Kosovo twice in a mission to clarify problems with the Central European Free Trade Agreement, CEFTA.
In an interview for Balkan InsightSarrazin told that Kosovo risks deeper isolation due to Serb imports ban
Kosovo could face calls for exemption from the Central European Free Trade Agreement and other penalties if it continues to ban Serbian imports”. So has Germany's envoy for the Balkans, Manuel Sarrazin.
On 5 September, Germany's ambassador to Kosovo, Jorn Rohde, said Sarrazin, on his second visit to Kosovo within a short deadline, had asked Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti to lift the ban imposed in June 2023 on importing domestic products. Serbian origins, which Sarrazin says are blocking free trade in the region and obstructing CEFTA.
However, its name would be written as Kosovo*, which would lead to a footnote saying that Kosovo's status has not yet been finally resolved according to UN Security Council Resolution 1244, reflecting Serbia's refusal to recognise it as an independent state.
