The former head of Kukes Mayor Safet Gjici has temporarily left the prison cell after being admitted to a private hospital in Tirana.
The media report that the former Socialist mayor has been laid down in the Patology ward, but his state of health is still unknown.
Safet Gjici was involved in the video scandal with Alma Kaci and sentenced to 3 years in prison for corruption by the Special Court of Appeals.
Gjitius was sentenced to the first degree for abuse of office and had to serve a year and six months in prison, the sentence that began from June last year, the day he was arrested and expected to end soon.
But the Special Appeals Court came to the conclusion that Gjitius should not be punished for abuse of office but for active corruption. Consequently, he was sentenced to four years and six months in prison, of which he would have to serve three years because of the benefit of the reduced trial.
