Germany's internal intelligence agency has warned against a group belonging to Russian military intelligence (GRU), known as the 29155 unit, saying it has carried out cyber attacks against NATO member states and the European Union.
In a post on the social platform X known earlier as Twitter, the German agency said it has issued a warning along with the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the US Cyber Security Agency CISA and other international partners.
The warning comes at a time of increasing concerns in Europe about the possibilities of expanding Russian hackers and spies from the start of Moscow's war in Ukraine in 2022.
Earlier in the year, Berlin has accused Russia of conducting several cyber attacks on the ruling Social Democrats, as well as on several other companies dealing with logistics, defence, airspace and information technology sectors.
In the warning issued Monday, the German agency has said that the Russian group, known as “The Aru of the cast of”, has carried out activities with the aim of spying and sab run-off, with the aim of stealing published data.
Russian agency GRU unit is known for its suspicious involvement in poisoning former Russian agent Sergei Scripal and his daughter, Yulia, in Britain, in 2018, according to the German agency. / REL/
