Pristina municipality accuses Kurti Government of damaging 28.5m euros last year

The director of Capital Investments in the Pristina municipality, Krenar Xhaferi, has expressed concern over the obstacles they have been caused by the Ministry of Finance on municipal projects, stressing that only in 1923 as municipalities are penalised for 28.5m euros. In an interview with Online Economy, Xhaferi said that for this year, [...]

In an interview for Online Economy, Xhaferi has said that for this year, financial support is only 300 thousand euros from the government on three projects.

He has demanded that “Pristina not be seen in political prism”, stressing that the capital does not deserve that logic.

“We have also linked emergency intervention contracts for three years, there are over 7 million investments, while the last project initiated with the chairman is a complete treatment of the area in Santa. We've done it before and it'll start. In 2023 alone, we were penalised sometime until August for 28.5m euros so it was a chaotic situation with the Ministry of Finance, it reminded us that we had the main meeting during this government, and I don't understand the logic they followed in the relationship with Pristina. Because Pristina does not deserve this logic in any situation, I myself have been part of the central level, and with Pristina we have had extremely good reactions in terms of city development because Pristina does not dare to see it in political prism”.

The “as projects that we have so far supported, we have been supported by 300 thousand euros this year, on the three ring project, of Kolovica Street and Sofali, also in the Bajram Bahtiri project, which we have for the continuation of this project two more miles. All the financial support we're talking about right now is 300 thousand euros. We have a co-operation agreement with the Ministry of Infrastructure for the insight of Veterarch that we are finalising the project to carry out with it”, Xhaferri stressed.

Xhaferi has said the city ring of Pristina is facing difficulties due to lack of support from the central level, which, according to him, is not being approved by the central level for development of the project.

These obstacles, according to Xhaferi, have become one of the biggest challenges to realising important infrastructure projects and are affecting their progress in Pristina. He has voiced the need for closer co-operation with the central authorities to ensure that important projects advance without unnecessary delays.

“In the part of delaying projects, Agim Ramadani part, we have an objection with the Ministry of Culture, because it's part of the historic area and again we tend to block projects in terms of tendering these projects there have been no central-level obstacles. But the obstacles are developing projects, in the tender phase are not part of the municipality, but are in project developments. We have the city ring, which awaits central-level support, awaits guarantees and is not approved by the central level for project development. First the city ring has cost 250 million, and at its beginnings it has cost 120 million, every day the cost of the earth rises, and normally we have price increases and we have come to this cost”, he said.

Xhaferi has announced that they have cut out over 18 contracts of irresponsible operators.

“A part of the projects are in 90 percent of the fulfillment some to 70 percent, most will be closed but projects are large. We've cut out more than 18 contracts from non-responsible operators, we still have irresponsible operators because on the ground they are faced, this practice hasn't been in 10 years before any contract has been cut, he said.
