The judicial process against those accused of the Banjska attack could last 5-6 years”

A day after the Kosovo Special Prosecution filed charges against 45 people for the attack a year ago in Zvecan Banjsk, Prime Minister Kurti said it must be analysed its contents before it can be spoken.

According to him, the indictment could have risen earlier.

I haven't seen the indictment yet. I'm convinced it could rise much earlier and be in a new situation today. Of course, as our people say, it's better late than ever. But we must look at its contents so that we can talk about it”, Kurti said.

Establishing the indictment for the attack in Banjska added expectations for Serbia's punishment on the part of the European Union.

But the European Union had consistently said it is awaiting the outcome of the investigations to take action against Serbia, now when they concluded it said the outcome of the judicial process should be expected.

“The EU welcomes the fact that Kosovo's Special Prosecutor has completed the investigation into the Banjska attack and has filed relevant charges. The EU has consistently repeated expectations that all responsible and involved in this brutal attack be held accountable. Now the trial begins. We expect completion of the process. Then we said at the end of September last year that this attack was a clear and unprecedented transition and there will be consequences. When the court in Kosovo decides who is guilty and who is responsible or innocent, then it will be time for responsibility. While the EU says Serbia's punishment must be expected to end the judicial process, Kosovo continues to be under punitive measures, for which the union only took a month for their deployment, following tensions in the country's north in May last year.

Representatives of the ruling party, the Vetevendosje Movement, say the punishment for this attack should happen as soon as possible.

The opposition, meanwhile, says it is time for the EU to remove Kosovo measures as soon as possible and punish Serbia for the attack on Banjska.
