The situation between Kosovo and Serbia, as well as the positions that are being taken towards both sides by leaders of the Union Europe and the United States of America, for American analyst for Western Balkan issues Edward Joseph, are wrong.
“What is happening in Kosovo is not the new situation, we've seen it for years now, and the reason is that the US, as top leaders, along with the EU, is not showing the strength they have, which is the first to play cards and not move anything Vucic, and certainly not even Kurti. And instead of showing both strength, both the US and the EU, they have backed Vucic, and this is seen by Kurti, who fears shares in Kosovo. My message is very clear, weakness brings weakness, so we have been weak with Vucic, even though we know his strong alliance with Russia and with China we all have before Voul to meet with Putin and Vucic who hosted Shi Jin Ping, they also have close relations with Iran. This is the situation, and Kurti says I see how weak you are being shown and I'm benefiting, and in the meantime it's provocative with the Kosovo Serbs and that's a big problem”, he said.
Meanwhile, Professor Joseph points out that the solution remains to the immediate steps great powers must take by rapidly changing all their policy regarding the Western Balkans.
“The US should immediately change its attitude towards Belgrade and then have a chance with Pristina. Currently, the US and the EU are keeping their focus on Pristina and what Kurti can do most, even though in my opinion what Kurt is doing is problematic, but on the other hand leaders are doing nothing for Vucic, as they want Serbia's support for Ukraine and want this country's lithium. It must be the opposite, the more pressure the US and EU Vucic exert, the greater their support for Ukraine and we will have more chances of convincing the Serbian people that digging for lithium does not harm the environment. If we continue to support Vucic, we will lose the Serbian people because they won't trust us with the lithium and also lose Albin Kurti who won't trust us anymore.”, the American analyst said.
The relations of European leaders such as Makron and Sholz with Serbian President Vucic, for American analyst for Western Balkan Affairs Edward Joseph, are in pursuit of US politics.
“Makron and Sholz are following the American political line. They think that to sell weapons to Vucic he will increase support for them, but it is the opposite Vucic is benefiting and will continue his destabilising policy in the region, drawing back even Kurti, who will continue to be provocative with Kosovo Serbs”, Joseph noted.
