The former head of the Kosovo Economic Ode, Safet Gjaliu, has said the true percentage of unemployment in the country is disturbing.
Through a text on the social Facebook network, he said unemployment is more than four percent.
Citing data from the Kosovo Statistics Agency, he has said:
According to official data from the Kosovo Statistics Agency, Kosovo's total population reaches 1,56 000 people, of whom 1,174,836 are over 18. In this group, 425,499 people are employed in the public and private sector, while another 85,000 are self-employed in micro or start-up companies that are not formally registered as employment. Also, 71,000 people are students in Kosovo who attend public and private education institutions”.
According to him, the number of unemployed turns out to be over 559 thousand by 38 percent.
However, a disturbing problem is that official statistics are often manipulated to provide an incomplete view of the job market in the country. When all these factors are taken into account, it turns out that the number of unemployed is about 559,337 people, bringing the unemployment rate to an alarming 38%.
Meanwhile, official reports often do not reflect everyday reality. For example, according to the Barometer of the Regional Co-operation Council (RCC), unemployment in Kosovo is reported to be only 4%, based on a sample of 1,000 respondents. This figure raises many questions about the methodology used and cannot be taken as an indication for the entire country, as it has focused on a limited sample. ” he said.
Gerjaliu has also mentioned power:
Therefore, it is necessary that institutions focus on drafting policies that address the country's economic reality and work on reducing unemployment in a comprehensive way, not only on limited polls that do not represent the overall and democratic state of the population.
The distance and arrogance of power facing the private sector does not guarantee employment”.
