Freed on parole, Fred Beler

The decision ended Beler's detention board, which is accused of buying votes in the May 14th 2023 elections.

Beler returned to Fieri's prison cell around 3:30 on July 20th after completing the five-day permit he was defeated by Albanian authorities.

That was after he was sworn in to the European Parliament as Greece's Eurodeput.

In a press proposal before returning to his cell, Beler sought bail, while the verdict was expected by the Fieri Court.

Himara's former elected mayor held a series of meetings with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and other Greek political figures.

He considers the punishment for buying votes unjust and has warned that he will be sent to the Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

For Beler, Himara will be part of European Albania.

Decision
On June 25th, the JKKO Appeal placed two years in prison for Frede Beler, leaving in force the previous decision he found guilty of vote buying in the May 14th 2023 elections.

On 16 April, meanwhile, the rational decision on the mayor's sentence was cleared up, arguing that election corruption in his case is factd.

Beler's lawyers in the case claim that Arsen Rama, the police undercover, was not in Himara's territory when he allegedly had meetings with Fred Beler, whose meetings were recorded audio and video and photographed.

But the Court, in its rational decision, stresses that Rama was in the city of Himara on May 10th 12th, when meetings with defendants Beleri and Cocaveshi were held and the defence claim did not stand.

“Referenced the number tabular data to use of citizens Arsen Rama, it turns out that in meetings held with defendants, on May 10th, 2023:40 to 8:48, at 20:20 p.m. until 20:24 a.m., Arsen Rama is drawn into the territory of Himara, and not in any other town”, the courts reason in a prolonged manner.

Furthermore, the reasoning is halted in audio and video recording of conversations between defendants and police undercovers, where the court explains that lawyers have made no claim to their content and have not requested hearing conversations at the hearing.

“As far as claims are concerned about monitoring film images, photography, retracting alleged wiretap actions as committed in violation of the law, the court estimates that this claim is not based on law”, mentioned in the ruling.

Furthermore, it is said that in any case, even during the basic trial, the parties can hear in the hearings of wiretapping that they have claims.

Defenders of defendants questioned by the tribunal at the hearing of documental evidence reviews, whether they had claims on wiretap content and if they wanted to hear audio-video material, have claimed they have no claims on content and did not want to hear this material.

The court also says it created conviction based on evidence and facts, such as audio and video surveillance among defendants with undercover, Arsen Rama telephone expert, as well as witness confessions that Fred Beler and Pandeli Cocaveshi have carried out the criminal work of electoral corruption.
