Albanian Football Federation President Armand Duka has spoken of organising the U-21 European Championship along with Serbia.
Duka said the organisation of this championship brings only sports benefits to Albania, while for numerous controversial voices, he said they should not judge emotionally.
“After all we will play in Albania and Serbia in Serbia, but co-ordination is an important factor. We just can't organize it. However, this has also sparked discussions, there is some kind of opposition. I don't think we should judge emotionally, we have to judge yet more”.
I certainly don't have a critical position for those who judge emotionally, but I invite them to judge differently. Without forgetting the past we have to build the future and who better than football can deliver these messages of cooperation, solidarity. After all, we do not have only a co-operation with Serbia, that through football, we have co-operation in other areas, political, trade co-operation, despite being critical in many things”, Duka said in an interview for Klan.
On the other hand, Duka said the future must be built with Serbia, but without forgetting the past, where he said perhaps the period is not too long from what has happened between the Albanian people and Serbian soldiers.
“We must build the future without forgetting the past. Granted, the period may not be much longer than what has happened between our people and that of the Serb, or Serbian soldiers and our people. There's a lot of other peoples' stories just like we've got”.
“Fotball has affected as much as it can positively affect. After all we're going to do a sports championship, this is a sports event. In our view, our goal is merely sporting benefits. We will play in Albania, the other group in Serbia”, Duka said.
In terms of organising the U-21 European Championship for 2027 between Albania and Serbia, it has sparked sharp reactions in Kosovo and Albania, calling this an act of treason against Kosovo.
