The arrest of former KLA soldier in Macedonia V Ahmeti: Kosovo's Interpol membership must be accelerated

The chairman of the Democratic Union for Integration in Northern Macedonia, Ali Ahmeti, has told EO that the path to Kosovo's membership in the largest global police organisation, Interpol, must be accelerated as the arrests of former KLA soldiers speak of Serbia's arrest, are frequent. Speaking of the arrest of Blerim Ramadani by [...]
Speaking of the arrest of Blerim Ramadani by North Macedonia Police on 17 July, on the basis of a warrant issued by Serbia, Ahmeti has said Serbia will continue to hold former Kosovo Liberation Army soldiers under pressure.
This is an issue that should be seen with the international community to accelerate the path towards Kosovo's membership in Interpol. Otherwise without Kosovo membership in Interpol and without an agreement with the international community, in this case with the EU and the US, Serbia will continue to hold all Kosovo Liberation Army soldiers under pressure, all activists. The lists are full of anti-invasive activists and this issue should deal with the greatest seriousness”, Ahmeti has said, while arguing on the Macedonian police's move to arrest the former KLA soldier.
The bottom line is that decisions are made, Interpol executes decisions made by Interpol member states, northern Macedonia is an Interpol member, Albania is an Interpol member and has the obligation to respect the decisions of Interpol member states”, he said.
Blerim Ramadani has been detained on July 17th 2024 at the Jazhinca border crossing, based on a warrant issued by the Belgrade Court through INTERPOL Serbia, with war crimes claim in the summer of 1999 in the Nerodime region.
This is not the only case when North Macedonian authorities arrest former KLA soldiers because of Serbia's warrants.
In 2016, precisely because of Serbia's arrest, he was arrested at the border between Kosovo and Northern Macedonia, Gafurr Elshani.
