Two years from application, Kosovo away from EU membership

The Kosovo government says it is being wronged the country by procrastinating to review the application for obtaining the country-Candidate status for membership in the European Union. According to the Kosovo executive, the EU's opinion on this application and receiving the questionnaire are necessary steps to be taken by the European union. Two years from application, to [...]
Two years from the application, the government hopes the Hungarian presidency of the EU Council will seriously address Kosovo's bid. On the other hand, the Democratic League of Kosovo accuses the government of working nothing on European integrations, until it is linked to Kosovo-Serbia dialogue. Meanwhile, European integration connoisseurs are sceptical that there will be a positive decision under Hungary's presidency.
Klisman Cadiu, deputy prime minister for European Integration, Development and Dialog, Besnik Bislimi, tells Kosovo that it is unfair that Kosovo will not be given the opportunity to be assessed on meritocracy basis on the level of preparation and institutional readiness.
“We think it is unfair that Kosovo will not be given the opportunity to be assessed on a meritismocracy basis on the level of preparation and institutional readiness. The outlook on the part of the EU and the taking of the questionnaire are necessary steps to take. We have worked closely with the EU Council presidencys over this period, and we hope that the current Hungarian one will deal with the seriousness of our application”, He points to Cadiu, broadcasting Clancosova.tv.
He adds that Kosovo's application for obtaining EU membership candidate status was as a result, as he says of eventual progress and a powerful signal of will, readiness and determination to move forward in the European integration process and the road towards the EU.
However, the chairman of the Commission for European Integration in the Kosovo Assembly, Rzazarta Krasniqi, tells Kosovo that the government has worked nothing for European integration.
Copying the country's status on EU membership, it also links it with Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.
On the other hand, European Integration Professor Dritero Arifi is sceptical that there will be movements under the Hungarian presidency for granting Kosovo status as the country-Candidate for EU membership.
However, he adds, even if Kosovo gets the green light, EU membership under current circumstances is impossible due to Kosovo's non-recognition by the five EU nations.
Kosovo has applied for gaining state-run status for EU membership on December 15th of 2022. The application so far has not been reviewed by any country that has held the European Council presidency, meanwhile until December 31st, 2024, the Council presidency has Hungary.
