At least 17 students have died after a fire swept through their school's overnight dorm in Kenya, police said on September 6th. Fire at the Hillside Eddarasha Academy, in Nieri County, erupted around midnight, police said, and included a dorm where children were sleeping.
There are 17 cases of fatality from this incident, and there are others who have been sent to the hospital with serious injuries”, said National Police spokeswoman Resila Onyango.
Police in Kenya did not disclose the age of victims.
In this elementary school, some 800 students between the ages of 5 and 12.
According to the police spokeswoman, 16 of the injured have serious injuries and have been sent to a nearby hospital.
The cause of the fire, according to police, is still unknown, but authorities have launched investigations. /rel/
