Former political prisoner Naim Maqastena-Sherifi, at Dukaagjini Television, shared her story from the beginning of freedom activities to torture in Yugoslav power prisons by UDB Albanian collaborators.
Since the age of 14, in 1981, Maqasten became involved in demonstrations that took place at the time. Its initial activities included distributing posters and Thracians, as well as writing slogans with the aim of spreading awareness of freedom. It stresses the importance of keeping alive the idea of freedom and refusing to live under dictatorship.
Once again, with that idea of freedom on foot, that people with a freedom request and don't take me to live under the lock of”, Maqastena-Sherifi said.
As for the UDB, it expresses concern that this mechanism still operates in Kosovo, calling it a disaster for the country. Maqasten claims that the UDB has caused much damage to people's lives in Kosovo, controlling every aspect of them and aiming at the extermination and deportation of Albanians from Kosovo, especially during the last two decades of the last century.
She relates the moments of her arrest in October 1986 when, as a high school student, she was captured by eight state security workers. After the house raid, she was interrogated and tortured by Zymer Zymer and others.
“8 security workers with two cars... they raid the house. Among them was Xhavit Red, Blerim Olon, Lutfi Ajazi, Rifat Berisha, Fadil Hoti... First of all, I've faced the person who may have been the worst in state insurance ever, Zymer Zymer”.
The detention conditions were miserable and she experienced constant physical and psychological torment, including beatings and insomnia.
They took what they took, raided the house, and took me along with them”, added former political prisoners.
Maqasten indicated that during his detention he faced severe torture from Zymer Zymer, Lutfi Ajazi, Blerim Olon, and Bajram Munishi. She mentioned that the laws of time predicted that children could not be questioned without the presence of parent or steward from the center for social work, but in reality this was not respected.
He never had the presence of a social worker or a parent during interrogation, stressing that his parents were not allowed to be present.
"Never, no social worker has ever accompanied me so much as a parent, that they have not left”, has added Maqasten.
One of the most popular methods of breaking the Maqasten was lack of sleep. She also relates that Blerim Ollon used lies to break her emotionally, telling her that her father had died and that only if she admitted the charges would she be allowed to attend the funeral.
If you even talk and sign that which we're telling you then we'll take you to the funeral for Father”
During being held in the Mitrovica prison, she suffered from serious health problems due to torture.
I've had a month and more food in my room than I can even hold my spoon,” she said.
Maqasten showed that Faik Nura was UDB-ashi who questioned her father when they returned from Turkey to Kosovo to live. She described her father's communication with Fik Nura and Ibush Klokoqi after bringing her from the hospital in Mitrovica, where she saw his daughter severely beaten.
I remember being a dad has a look and he's gone out and he's been talking to Faik and Ibush... what you've done is terrible that this is a child... and from now on whatever happens to you have to do with me. Just one hair if you touch it, you're gonna have a job with me. Don't forget that you have children in the house, and I swear to God, and I'm sorry to have to say, "x1..."
And Bajram Munishi and Blerim Ollon were the ones who had beaten him once again after meeting his father.
Even after being released from prison, Maqasten was under strict surveillance from state security and was unable to continue schooling. Her school file was lost, and only after her father's complaint on the Central Committee, documents were found in the school secretary's drawer. Despite her success, she was unable to continue her schooling at the desired school and was forced to continue in the agriculture school.
The pressure on Maqasten's family increased especially after her father died, and obstacles continued during the studies.
I had many obstacles, maybe there were a lot of people associated with security, and they just wouldn't let me walk in front of”, she said.
In 1997, Maqasten worked on the Council for Human Rights and faced Lutfi Ayaz and Bajram Munish's wife.
“In the Human Rights Council in 97 has been a very wasted experience. Lutfi Ayazi's office has arrived with Bajram Munish's wife. Then Bajram Munish was out on the island... they wanted proof that it was part of your union that people didn't recognize them. I based on the name of who they are, actually this Lutphia and the figure... I was very rebellious. I talked to Pajazi Nushu and those who were there, and I told you I don't know if it's worth it to you guys to make sure that's the case. As far as I know, they haven't left you that confession. But later I learned that even Blerim Olon and Bajram Munich were in prison”, Maqastena-Sherifi indicated.
She also confessed to a 2001 meeting with Xhavit Red, who was then head of security at the OSCE.
I was with a conference on O The SB for Anti-Traffy... I saw him from a distance, but he came and he's holding my collar and said Mrs. Maqasten. I told him you could get away from him that the computer took the microphone to call who you are... didn't say anything, just like the getiques were removed”, showed a political prisoner.
It has stressed the need for a Lustracion law in Kosovo to address past crimes.
“They have to withdraw in some form should apologize if they are to apologize to these citizens, these people for all they've done, Maqasten said.
