Former politician and now lawyer Azem Vlasi has voiced criticism of Kosovo government and Prime Minister Albin Kurti for their insistence on opening Ibër Bridge in Mitrovica
In “FIVE” in Dukagjin, Vlasi stressed that this insistence is being used by Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq to draw attention to domestic problems in Serbia, including protests against lithium mines.
For example, all this noise going on about opening the bridge and these outside representatives are saying there may be unrest; not it's Belgrade signal, Vucinqi that if the bridge is being opened it will be used as an opportunity to cause real unrest and tension and to shift Serbia's attention to the opinion from the big problems Vucinac has indoors, because it's almost like a population uprising in Serbia, against the limo mines, then what it's about to connect us to whether they are going to cross the Mitrovica Bridge or into Mitrovica.
We turn the internationals against ourselves, turn Belgrade's attention to Kosovo and shift from the problems Vuciq has. That's the point, because it's not a conflict that needs to be opened, the bridges serve communication rather than separate people”, Vlads said.
The former politician also received criticism from internationals.
According to Vlases, international statements on this issue are unacceptable and incomprehensible, and they only give Serbia a chance to create tensions in Kosovo.
Vlasi has stressed that the Government of Kosovo must govern the country under law and constitution, but should also assess the circumstances and the right moment for such decisions as opening the Ibri Bridge.
Very strange sounds all this noise. And especially from international partners, who in a way suggest, even signal Serbians that they should make trouble about opening the bridge. It's all incomprehensible.
But it must be said that Kosovo's power, the government, first of all, returns to its issues, in the sense that Kosovo will rule under the law and the constitution. In each part of the territory and in each segment. But some concrete decisions have to be, so I'm saying that if the moment is resolved, let's assess the” circumstances, Vlads added.
Vlasi also criticised the government for its lack of co-ordination with KFOR and international allies, stressing that continued insistence on opening the bridge could have grave consequences for Kosovo's relations with international partners.
Mitrovica's <x0 ... Bridge is open, I don't know what openings they're talking about, open to foot. There are two other bridges for traffic. Even if traffic is allowed from the southern us of Mitrovica to the north as they go there, the walk zone of shops begins there, as well as passing through there should be on one side. I don't know why they're making tensions, now there's no need to be any tension, the internationals shouldn't turn against us.
The government is pushing the issue. Why, questions are asked, the government and the prime minister brought themselves to this point. Because what happens now, if it's not really the function, these KFOR people say we're allowing, that we're here not to let go of any unrest... then what the government has earned, the government can hardly fight. KFOR cannot interfere. The fool is with the insistent, nothing done with push. Then the government should be asked why it's brought to this state... after we insist this stranger too much, should be delayed... It is bringing fists on itself with persistence over the matter our government and prime minister. Insisting the international government turns against us and favours Serbia”, he stressed.
Vlase stressed that this issue should not be part of dialogue with Serbia, as opening a bridge within Kosovo's territory is an internal issue of the country and should not depend on the decisions of another state.
“It should be the subject of dialogue, that it happens with Serbia itself or opening a bridge in a Kosovo city... These internationals should say we show a country in the world that asks another country or open or close its own territory”, Vlads said, in a direct connection to “FIVE”
