In recent days, two steps of Kosovo authorities have prompted warnings from the EU for consequences, and US calls for finding solutions through dialogue mediated by official Brussels.

On August 5th, nine branches of Serbia's Post were closed in the Serb-run north. The European Union and the US expressed disappointment at the action.

After insisting on opening the Ibri Bridge on August 6th and 7th, Interior Minister Jhelal Svecla visited it.

There is no reason for the bridge not to open. Now, when it opens, it's about the expert assessment of”, Svechla said.

These actions have supported the states of QUINT ( US, UK, Germany, France, Italy) and no mission NATO in Kosovo, KFOR.

Various shares in Kosovo's north have prompted similar reactions from the West since 2021.

From demands for suspension and return to dialogue until the application of punitive measures, international representatives in Kosovo have repeatedly urged Albin Kurti's government to withdraw from decisions made.

September 20, 2021 Kosovo's government decides that drivers from Serbia, once entering Kosovo, should change or cover their plates and receive Kosovo's temporary registration.

September 22, 2021 ) European Union for Foreign Policy and Security High Representative Josep Borrell calls for an immediate reduction in tensions.

June 29, 2022 ) Kosovo's government approves the decision on the possibility of reregistering cars with city license plates in Kosovo which releases Serbia's authorities to those RKS (Kosovo Republic).

July 31, 2022 ) US Ambassador to Kosovo Jeffrey Hovenier urges the Kosovo government to postpone implementation of decisions on Serbian license plates and documents for 30 days.

August 1, 2022 ) The implementation of decisions on Serbian documents and license plates until 1 September 2022 is postponed.

 

September 1, 2022 ) Reregisterment of vehicles at RKS plates begins in northern Kosovo. Car reregistering is given a two-month term, until October 31st.

October 28, 2022 ) The Kosovo government expands the plan for plates issued by Serbia, to be implemented in several phases. The plan envisions as early as April 21st of next year “will be removed” all plates that are not RKS- Republic of Kosovo.

October 28, 2022 ) US State Department (DASH) requires extending the deadline for car reregistering.

The United States is disappointed and concerned that the Government of Kosovo has rejected the demands of international partners to do so”, the UN said.

 

October 29, 2022 The European Union says it is “misleading” with the Kosovo Government's decision.

“It is disappointing to see that the [international partners' advice]” has not been followed, says the EU response.
