In Kosovo's Specialised Chambers in The Hague, decision has been made to continue the detention measure for former KLA leaders Hashim Thaci and Kadri Veselin.
This measure toward them has been continued through two decisions shared by the chairman of the court, Charles Smyth III.
Reasoning these decisions is said to have confirmed that the panel continues to lack information justifying the findings that Thaci and Wessel can escape in case they are released, but that there is a danger that they can prevent the DSF procedures, and that they can commit other crimes against those perceived as opponents of the KLA and witnesses.
So, in this regard, the SPS has indicated that these risks can be effectively managed only in the DSF detention facility.
“Linked to the risk of obstructing the progress of DS procedures and committing other crimes, the panel maintains that none of the measures envisioned at Article 415512 can sufficiently ease existing risks. Moreover, the panel finds that the measures in the country at the DPS detention facilities, considered as a whole, provide strong guarantees against unmonitored visits and communications with family members and pre-advanced visitors aimed at minimising the risks of obstruction and other crimes. Moreover, they offer a controlled environment where a possible violation of privacy can be identified and/or prevented more easily”, says the decision against the similar Wessel in the case against Thaci.
The panel has also calculated that the two indictees are in custody for a long period and that the trial in this case is over. Thus, the parties were asked to be cautious and the trial to be held as soon as possible.
As a result, the panel has arranged the continuation of the detention measure for another two months for Thaci and Weselini is needed, so the continuation of that move was ordered.
While, the SPS was also ordered that its statements for the upcoming detention of Thaci and Wessel to hand over until September 24th, 2024 that the other parties could then respond to the request. /Being fair
