“Return co-operation...”, Albin Kurti in the last year of governance does not stop uncoordinated moves, Kosovo's biggest ally reacts sharply

The Kosovo government has continued to implement the plan for opening the bridge over the Iber River despite opposition to the US and EU call not to do so. For the consequences of uncoordinated actions has been warned by Washington. This disregard of the Kurti's relation to the subnationals, and especially to the leading U.S. allies, is at risk [...]

At a conference Wednesday, Matthew Miller, US State Department spokesman, has warned that the government of Kosovo's recent uncoordinated actions could jeopardise the opportunities the country has created with the help of the US.

That was a clear message for Prime Minister Kurti.

“We are concerned with continuing decisions uncoordinated by the Kosovo leadership. We believe they endanger the possibilities that we helped Kosovo create”, Miller said.

Even EU spokesman Peter Stano, speaking days ago about the reopening of the Ibër Bridge for circulation, has said every step and action should be taken within the framework of Brussels' dialogue.

And, Ambassador of the United States Jeff Hovenier, before the media after last week's meeting with Kurt, had declared that the states of QUINT in consultation with NATO do not support any change in the status of the Ibri Bridge.

“The states of the QUINT, in consultation with NATO, did not support any change in the status of the Ibrit” bridge, Havenier had said.

While Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani has declared that the issue of the Ibër Bridge should not be the subject of dialogue with Serbia, saying this would be violation of Kosovo's sovereignty, territorial integrity and constitutionality.

Osmani reacted to the European Union, which last Thursday (1 August) said the issue of opening the bridge should be addressed in the dialogue in Brussels with Kosovo and Serbia.

She has said that Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq, there is nothing asked “when the circulation bridges will be opened in the Republic of Kosovo”.

All this noise for the Ibër Bridge, former diplomat Avni Arifi, has told of Periscope on Wednesday, is taking place as Vetevendosje wants to have political advancement in the election.

In time, he asked the president to speak as he does at international forums, and to act properly.

“The president needs to speak and I need to act on the rhetoric that he uses at every local and international forum. You can't call Rugovism and talk about Kosovo's proximity with Western values and in practice line up behind VV militants as their swimmer. The president must be defined”, he said.

While former Local Power Management Minister Sadri Ferati has said KFOR's opposition to the opening of the Ibri Bridge could be for political and popular motives.

“What had been more communicative would have been unilateral action and then the withdrawal as it did with the case of signs to be done at any cost, although it's not certain whether it's allowed, because KFOR can intervene and not allow anything to do so, but contrary to KFOR, and if the tension increases is even more cohesive, it's not the government that doesn't know these, but if it does, then it can only be political motives, for the benefit, the former minister said.

Meanwhile, PDK Secretary General Vlora Citaku has hinted that the decision to open the Ibër Bridge should be made with allies.

The “The bridges Kosovo needs are bridges with the US, the EU, NATO”, it has written.

Further, she has viewed the opening of the bridge as a symbolic one, while calling for more restraint.

Some Serbs protested in northern Mitrovica on Wednesday to oppose the opening of the bridge on Iber, which divides South Mitrovica, inhabited by Albanians, and the northern one inhabited by Serb majority.

Kurti's government, in mid-July, announced it aims to open the main bridge over the Iber River in Mitrovica.

However, the UNUINT countries US, Great Britain, Germany, France and Italy declared they do not support the opening of the bridge at this moment.

Peacekeeping Mission NATO in Kosovo, KFOR said any decision to open the main bridge over the Iber River should be taken within the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.

This mission has reiterated that it will not hesitate to undertake “all necessary measures” to fight developments that could affect regional security and stability. /Periscopi
