KFOR through a media report has indicated that today Turkish General Ozkan Ulutas has been notified by the Kosovo Police Director for a technical inspection of the Ibër Bridge in Mitrovica.
KFOR has said they will not hesitate to address any development that could affect the security environment and regional stability.
KFOR units hold a permanent, fixed presence on the bridge and continue to conduct regular patrols in surrounding areas to ensure stability and security, for the benefit of all local communities. We will not hesitate to address any development that could affect the security environment and regional stability, in full respect of our UN mandate”, the communique says.
KFOR has reiterated the stance that any decision concerning the opening of the bridge should be taken within Brussels' dialogue.
KFOR's “position has been clear and consistent all the time. Any decision concerning the opening of the main bridge over the Iber River should be taken within the EU-brokered dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina”, it is said further.
“KFOR continues to implement its mandate based on UN Security Council Resolution 1244 of 1999 to contribute to a safe and secure environment for all people and communities living in Kosovo and freedom of movement at any time and impartially. KFOR has a flexible and well-equipped structure. KFOR acts as the third security reacter, in close co-ordination with the Kosovo Police and the EU Law Rule Mission (EULEX), which are the first and second responder of security, respectively.”, the announcement concludes.
