A printing press for the production of counterfeit bills was discovered on the morning of August 14, Naples, in the district of Barra, in the eastern part of the city.
The Italian police operation that began after an investigation by Naples's Prosecutor aimed at neutralising a transatlantary organisation dedicated to counterfeiting forged bank notes 20, 50 and 100 euros led to the seizure of 2.7m euros.
Carabinieri conducted a search and arrested a man believed to be responsible for the establishment and management of the illegal printery built in his home.
A completely closed underground division was located behind the garage, exclusively accessible through a mobile wall built on tracks that could be opened with a remote control. Inside the room were found cladestinian printers set up with a series of 31 digital printers and other technical-graphic tools.
By investigations according to A2cn, it was found that the printing press had generated large amounts of fake banknotes in cuts 20, 50 and 100 euros, starting in 2021.
It is estimated that the printery, given its expansion throughout the eurozone, had monopolized about 30% of the fake currency in circulation, producing over 15m euros in total.
